How to run programs past its sell-by date of external strong drives?

I'm wondering, if I needed to put all of my programs from my computers firm drive to an exteral hard drive, how would I get about doing it? Programs resembling Microsoft Office 2007, Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas, Yahoo Messenger, etc. Would I just obligation to copy the Program Files folder from inside the C: Drive and then they would work? I know explicitly where adjectives the information is kept, so it would make sense. And within wouldn't be any extra files stored somewhere else that I would need. Right? Of course, games approaching GTA: San Andreas, have a folder within documents for save games, etc, that you would call for, but like for Microsoft Office 2007, I would freshly add it, and run the application, using equal icon that is to say short-cutted to the desktop and start menu. Correct?

Thanks for the help,

Matt

I reflect on it would be better to uninstall anything you want to move from your computers hard drive and reinstall it on to your external complicated drive as there are reference to installed programs in the registry, which would be wrong if you freshly moved files around. Desktop icons are a moment ago shortcuts to the present location of program files, moving the files would make these icons(shortcuts) point to a non existent folder location.
